[Milliways]: An American in Paris

Orpheus' flat in Paris is above a little boulangerie in the Latin Quarter, not too terribly far from Notre Dame. It's...very small, and that isn't helped by the musical instruments and half-finished, scribbled sheet music that are littered around the place. Everything is clean, just cluttered. It's a bit stuffy as well, though Orpheus has all his windows open.

As they step into the living room, Orpheus turns to Steve with a smile. "Bienvenue à Paris," he says.

"Hmm...well, it's always possible it's their code for sex."

"Hm. Maybe so. Just odd of him to ask her about it while we were flying over Austria."

He eats some of the Camembert. "This is good."

"Of course it is," Orpheus says with a grin. "It's French."

"Oh, of course," says Steve, smiling, and eats some more.

"They know their cheese," Orpheus adds, shrugging.

"I never thought much about cheese or what there is to be known about it."

[golden_lyre]

"That's because you're American, and your cheese is made of plastic..."

Steve puzzles at him, since processed cheese is still in his future.

"I like it," he says with a shrug. "Cheddar soup or a slice of Swiss on a Reuben? Pretty tasty."

"Cheddar is English," Orpheus points out. "And Swiss is...I'm not even sure it's cheese..."

"We also make it in the States."

[golden_lyre]

"It's still English."

[thekidfrombrooklyn]

"Well, it's good wherever it comes from.

"I can't believe we're arguing about cheese."

[golden_lyre]

"We're not arguing," Orpheus says. "I'm teasing you, and you're defending your country."

He smiles. "It's cute."

"Good thing I'm not taking it seriously, then."

He points to the plate. "You'd better eat some of this before I eat it all."

Orpheus has another couple pieces of bread. "Are you worried you'll ruin the line of your suit?"

"No. I just don't want to eat it all."

[golden_lyre]

"You haven't. I'm still eating it."

[thekidfrombrooklyn]

"Just checking.

"You've seen me eat. You know gaining weight really isn't a concern anymore."

He smiles. "Between all the walking and the rest of it we've been doing, I wouldn't be surprised if we both lose a little weight."

"Gods, I hope not. Demeter will worry." And she's been doing far too much of that lately.

Steve gazes at him, smiling fondly.

"Have I told you lately that you're beautiful?" he asks softly.

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus smiles and finishes the cheese. "Not today, at least."

"You're beautiful," Steve says, still soft. "I'm really proud to be with you."

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus laughs softly and leans in to kiss him, curling a hand around the back of Steve's neck. "Why proud?"

Steve murmurs, gaze on his lips, "Because you're incredible. You're so talented. You're so good to me. I know I'm not the only one who sees how sexy you are.You're mine whenever I want you and I ... I love that."

Orpheus kisses him again because he's not quite sure what to say to that.

"I'm not sure any of that means you should be proud, but thank you."
