Orpheus had dutifully eaten, if not as much as Steve wanted him to, at least enough to be able to say he was taking care of himself.

And after...well, upstairs had seemed like a good idea. Especially good considering this was the first time it was Orpheus who hadn't seen Steve in over a month rather than the other way around. He tugs Steve into the room with a smile, not willing to let go of him even for a second.

Steve strokes Orpheus's cheekbones with his thumbs. "Trying to talk me out of it, music man?"

"No, I just don't want you going in there acting like you've got nothing to lose."

"I know what I've got to lose," Steve says seriously.

[golden_lyre]

"All right, then," Orpheus says just as seriously. "Just remember that I've got that to lose too."

Steve exhales slowly and nods. "Okay."

He meets Orpheus's gaze. "We're giving this long-term thing a try, then?"

[golden_lyre]

"I'd like to, yeah," Orpheus says, touching his cheek. "I kind of thought we already were."

"Just making sure. I'm new at relationships--I need lots of reassurance."

[golden_lyre]

"And I'm not very good at giving it. Sorry. But we did say we wanted it to last, right?"

"Yeah," Steve murmurs. "We did."

"Isn't that what that means, then?" Orpheus asks.

"A bit's happened since then," Steve says, stroking Orpheus's cheek.

"Yeah, but that hasn't changed," Orpheus says quietly.

Steve traces the slope of Orpheus's nose with his thumb. "Good.

"Then we're doing this." He inhales slowly.

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus nods and kisses him. "All right, then."

Steve nods and tucks his head against Orpheus's neck.

Orpheus curls his arms around Steve, burying his face in Steve's hair.

"You can get your stuff later, yeah?"

"Yeah," Steve murmurs. "Later.

"I'm sorry I overreacted." He kisses Orpheus's neck.

"It's not your fault," Orpheus says quietly. "You're new to it all, and I'm...pretty shitty at it."

Steve kisses his neck a few more times.

"I'll get better at it if you will."

[golden_lyre]

"I'll try," Orpheus murmurs.

"That's all I ask for, darlin'. That you try."

[golden_lyre]

"I can promise you that much."

Steve smiles and strokes Orpheus's chest.

Orpheus kisses his hair with a faint smile of his own.

"I've drawn nothing but your hands lately."
