[Milliways]: An American in Paris

Orpheus' flat in Paris is above a little boulangerie in the Latin Quarter, not too terribly far from Notre Dame. It's...very small, and that isn't helped by the musical instruments and half-finished, scribbled sheet music that are littered around the place. Everything is clean, just cluttered. It's a bit stuffy as well, though Orpheus has all his windows open.

As they step into the living room, Orpheus turns to Steve with a smile. "Bienvenue à Paris," he says.

Orpheus waves over the waiter to settle the bill. "All right, then. On to the Louvre."

Steve smiles his thanks at the waiter.

Orpheus thanks him and stands, slinging his guitar across his shoulders and offering Steve a hand up.

Steve takes it and rises. He doesn't even give Orpheus a pointed look.

Orpheus would have ignored it anyway. He leads Steve out of the cafe and down the street.

"So we can take the Metro or we can walk."

"I don't mind walking." He slants a look at Orpheus. "Do you?"

"Not at all." He smiles back at Steve. "It's not all that far."

"Then we walk." He swings Orpheus's hand a little.

Orpheus laughs at that.

Steve looks at him with a contented smile.

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus smiles in return. When they get to the river, he takes Steve across one of the bridges with locks attached all the way across.

"What're these for?" Steve asks, touching one of the locks.

[golden_lyre]

"It's a...new tradition, I suppose. If you can call it a tradition after a few short years.

"Lovers buy these locks and engrave their names on them and leave them here, and then they throw the key in to the river."

"That's sweet," Steve says softly and his fingers linger over the locks as they walk past.

"It is, I suppose," Orpheus agrees. "It started on this bridge, but it's sort of spread since then."

"I guess that shows that people still believe in romance."

[golden_lyre]

"Everyone believes in romance in Paris," Orpheus says quietly.

Steve pulls Orpheus to him and kisses him, still holding his hand.

"Yeah," is all he says.

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus pauses after the kiss, looking at Steve thoughtfully.

"Come on," he says after a moment, clearing his throat. "Almost there."

"Great! I can't wait to see it."

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus gives him a tentative smile and tugs him across the bridge.

Steve hardly needs to be pulled.

He does want to come back and draw the locks at some point, though.

Orpheus would be more than happy to take him. The museum is visible at the end of the bridge, but Orpheus takes him around to the front to get the full effect.

Steve whistles.

"Orpheus. It's so...beautiful."

Now he's the one tugging Orpheus along.

Orpheus laughs, happy to be tugged.
