[Milliways]: Breaking the dry spell

Orpheus is trying very hard not to just drag Steve up the stairs to their room. Despite having been waiting in the bar, he hasn't been spending much time here at all. It made him think far too much of Steve, and the drawings Steve had left for him didn't really help on that score.

He manages to restrain himself, though, as he unlocks the door.

Steve, for all his brave talk, feels a bit awkward.

It has been seventy years, even if he's only been aware of the last few months--but even those months felt endless as he tried to find a routine that made living in the modern world bearable.

He says, fidgeting inside the room, "Wait until you see my new uniform."

"Later," Orpheus murmurs, setting his guitar aside. He can see that Steve is nervous, and he can guess why, or at least part of why.

"Come here," he says, opening his arms to Steve.

Steve goes to him and wraps his arms around him.


[ooc: Not sleepy yet. Want to keep going for a while?]

Orpheus holds him close, humming softly in his ear.

"We don't have to do anything if you don't want to," he says softly.

Steve presses their faces together a moment.

"Can we... just get into bed?"

[golden_lyre]

"Yeah, of course," Orpheus says and kisses him slowly before pulling away to toe off his shoes and turn down the covers.

Steve takes off his leather jacket and sits on the edge of the bed to unlace his boots.

"Commander Fury says for us to lay low for a while," he says. "I've been thinking of taking a road trip to pass the time."

Orpheus moves to kneel in front of Steve and take off his boots himself. "Where will you go?"

Steve watches him, leaning back on his hands.

"The places Bucky and I talked about seeing," he says quietly. "Like the Grand Canyon and California."

Orpheus carefully tugs is boots off and sets them aside, peeling off his socks next.

"Nothing between New York and Arizona?" he asks, lips curled into a teasing smile.

"I'm sure there's plenty," Steve says with a smile of his own. "Chicago, for instance. I understand the pizza's good there."

"I think as a New Yorker, you're not supposed to say that," Orpheus says and kisses Steve's knee before pulling himself to his feet.

"When you visit, I'll take you to my favorite pizza place for a slice," Steve says and pulls Orpheus between his legs.

Orpheus smirks and loops his arms around Steve's shoulders. "Is it still there?"

"It didn't exist in 1942," Steve says. "That's how well I'm getting used to my new century. I'm finding things I like.

"Coney Island is still around, thank God. And Nathan's. If Nathan's went away I think I'd fall apart."

"You can show me all of it," Orpheus says, stroking Steve's cheek. "Everything that's the same and everything that's new."

"I will," Steve says and kisses Orpheus's cheek.

"Do you think you'd like to come on the road trip with me?"

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus laughs softly and moves to stretch out on the bed. "You'd want me to?"

"Of course I do." He reclines on his side. "I understand if you'd rather not, though. You and me and a motorcycle, sounds like a terrible time..."

He gives Orpheus a mischievous look through his lashes.

[golden_lyre]

"I was just thinking," Orpheus says, his hand settling on Steve's hip, "that it's a lot of ground to cover with me on your back."

"I don't mind you on my back," Steve murmurs and leans in to kiss him.

[golden_lyre]

"I've noticed," Orpheus whispers, returning the kiss.


[ooc: I think it's bedtime for me.]

"I could probably borrow a car..."

Orpheus shakes his head. "I like the idea of you on a motorbike. It feels right."

"Come with me," Steve coaxes between kisses. "I've never really seen the country properly and I want to, with you."
