Orpheus wasn't entirely sure the ring would work as a way for him to get to Steve's world, but he was going to give it a shot. If it didn't work, he'd explain it to Steve the next time they were both in the bar, and they could figure something else out.

His guitar slung across his back, Orpheus turns the ring on his finger and opens the door, pleased to find himself in Steve's apartment when he steps through.

Orpheus watches in amusement, leaning back and swirling his wine in its glass.

Steve waits until the opening credits begin, and then makes a little triumphant airpunch and gets back on the couch.

"There." He kisses Orpheus's nose.

Orpheus laughs and kisses him softly. "Well done, my love."

Steve kisses him a little deeper, and then settles on the sofa, his head on Orpheus's chest, to watch the movie.

Orpheus curls an arm around him, hand resting on Steve's chest.

"I haven't read the sequels yet," Steve murmurs. "They're on my list, and then I'll watch the other movies."

"They're good," Orpheus says quietly. "Also my mother's."

"I believe that."

He drops a quick kiss on Orpheus's hand.

Orpheus smiles and kisses his hair.

Steve tenses up during the depiction of Smaug's attack on Erebor, and has a long drink of wine.

Orpheus strokes his hand over Steve's chest, humming softly into his hair.

Steve settles against him again, and his heartbeat slows.

"I should always have you around when I'm watching things with battles," he murmurs.

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus smiles and runs his nose through Steve's hair. "I'd like to be here for that."

"You're so good at making me feel better."

[golden_lyre]

"I'm glad, lovely," he murmurs, squeezing Steve a little.

Steve kisses his hand and lays his head on Orpheus's chest again.


He's fine until they get to the part where Balin relates the battle of the dwarves and orcs before the doors of Erebor, and then he whispers, "This is where I had to leave before."

Orpheus holds him a little tighter, laying his cheek against Steve's hair and humming quietly again.

Steve breathes slowly, his hand wrapped around Orpheus's arm. He hides his face in Orpheus's chest during the goriest parts.

Orpheus hums all the way through it, rocking Steve slightly.

He exhales slowly when the scene is over. "Thanks. Now I can enjoy the rest."

Until there's more fighting, anyway.

Orpheus smiles faintly. "Of course," he murmurs. "I'm here if you need me."

Steve strokes Orpheus's arm.

Orpheus kisses his hair, giving him a squeeze.

As they get further into the movie, Steve is able to relax enough to even eat some popcorn.

Orpheus occasionally strokes his fingers over Steve's chest but mostly focuses on the film.
