Orpheus wasn't entirely sure the ring would work as a way for him to get to Steve's world, but he was going to give it a shot. If it didn't work, he'd explain it to Steve the next time they were both in the bar, and they could figure something else out.

His guitar slung across his back, Orpheus turns the ring on his finger and opens the door, pleased to find himself in Steve's apartment when he steps through.

"It is," Orpheus agrees, fingers sliding over Steve's spine.

Steve nuzzles his face against Orpheus's chest.

"People think I was just an actor--well, that Captain America was just an actor--back during the war. I don't blame them. I don't think anything the Commandos did is in a history book."

"Does that bother you?" Orpheus asks, carding his fingers through Steve's hair.

"I don't know. I'd hate for people to think I was some kind of fake--or that I am one now. And there are fewer and fewer veterans who remember me."

[golden_lyre]

"Have you talked to them? The ones that do remember?"

[thekidfrombrooklyn]

"Briefly. During Loki's invasion, someone recognized me."

[golden_lyre]

"Oh?" Orpheus murmurs, nuzzling his hair.

[thekidfrombrooklyn]

"He called me Cap, like everybody used to do."

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus smiles at that. "Cap?"

[thekidfrombrooklyn]

"Short for Captain. A lot of them never knew my real name, and it seemed silly for them to call me Captain America all the time, so I was just Cap."

[golden_lyre]

"I like it."


[ooc: Bedtime.]

"Me too." He pushes himself up to drop a quick kiss on Orpheus's lips. "You don't have to call me Cap, though."

He smiles and kisses Steve back. "I wasn't planning to, lovely."

Steve chuckles and lays his head on Orpheus's chest again.

"This is so nice," he murmurs.

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus hums softly, rubbing his hand over Steve's back. "Yeah, it really is," he says softly.

"And I used to wonder if we'd ever be more than just sex."

[golden_lyre]

"So much more," Orpheus whispers. He tilts Steve's head up to look at him for a long moment before leaning in for a kiss.

Steve murmurs, "So much," and kisses him gladly.

He runs his hand through Orpheus's hair when they part, and says gently, "What are you thinkin', honey?"

He shakes his head, smiling faintly. "Sometimes...sometimes it hits me how much I love you. I'm never quite sure what to do with that."

Seve gives a soft, delighted laugh and moves so he can hold Orpheus closer to him. "You celebrate it, sweetheart," he says and nuzzles Orpheus's nose. "You be glad for it. And you can kiss me as much as you want."

"I know in general," Orpheus says with a laugh of his own. "But in the moment, it can be...overwhelming."

"All of those work in the moment," Steve says and starts giving Orpheus butterfly kisses.

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus smiles, closing his eyes. "It makes me want to sing," he murmurs. "A song for you and no one else."

Steve leans their foreheads together. "I won't ever say no to that."

Orpheus kisses him softly, then moves so his lips are by Steve's ear.

He starts to sing very, very softly, loud enough only for Steve to hear, even if someone else had been in the room with them. It's sweet and grand and truly overwhelming and flooding with love and a deep-seated sense of belonging.
