Orpheus wasn't entirely sure the ring would work as a way for him to get to Steve's world, but he was going to give it a shot. If it didn't work, he'd explain it to Steve the next time they were both in the bar, and they could figure something else out.

His guitar slung across his back, Orpheus turns the ring on his finger and opens the door, pleased to find himself in Steve's apartment when he steps through.

"For your healthy appetite?"

"Exactly.

"And it's nice to have places to come back to, you know? Something steady when the world gets so weird. There wasn't much damage in this part of the city from Loki's army--you can almost pretend it didn't happen."

Orpheus tilts his head. "What does the rest of it look like?"

"Like it got attacked by an army of giant aliens," Steve says, which probably doesn't help much. "It's getting better, but for a while there was nothing but debris and broken glass for blocks."

Orpheus has a remarkable imagination...

"Who did the cleanup?"

"Public services, with a lot of cash from a couple different Stark foundations."

He pauses to smile when their waitress comes back with their breakfasts. Steve's is, indeed, enough to feed a lumberjack or two.

Orpheus smiles his thanks at her as well, turning an amused look on Steve. "Are you sure that's going to be enough?"

"For breakfast, yeah." He grins as he takes off the paper cuff from the little bundle of silverware.

"And when's your next scheduled snack?"

"Why? Are you worried about keeping me fed?" He forks some hash browns into his mouth. "There's food in the apartment. I'm sure you saw it."

Orpheus smirks. "I want to make sure you keep your strength up."

"Don't you worry about that," says Steve and pushes a plate to Orpheus. "Have some ham. Protein to fill you up."

Orpheus laughs. "You sure you don't need it?" he asks, cutting off a bite.

Steve points to the bacon and sausage still on the plate. "I think I'll be fine." He pours syrup over the sausage.

Orpheus shakes his head fondly. "As will I," he says, gesturing to his own bacon.

Steve grins at him again and eats a mouthful of pancakes.

"When we're done here," he says when he's swallowed, "do you want to just go back to the apartment and watch a movie?"

"Unless there's something else you'd like to do."

[thekidfrombrooklyn]

"Mostly I just want to cuddle," Steve admits.

"Then let's go back and watch a movie," Orpheus says with a small.

"As soon as you finish your breakfast," says Steve, his eyes soft.

Orpheus nudges Steve's foot. "You've got further to go than I do, lovely."

Beaming, Steve pops a forkful of country potatoes into his mouth.

Orpheus leans back, smiling around a mouthful of pancake.

Steve says, after a few minutes of concentrated eating, "Is there anything else you want to do while you're here, or do you want to just wing it?"

"Winging it is fine, I think," Orpheus says thoughtfully. "I just want...to see how you live here."
