Orpheus wasn't entirely sure the ring would work as a way for him to get to Steve's world, but he was going to give it a shot. If it didn't work, he'd explain it to Steve the next time they were both in the bar, and they could figure something else out.

His guitar slung across his back, Orpheus turns the ring on his finger and opens the door, pleased to find himself in Steve's apartment when he steps through.

"The interviews that I give. The talk shows and things. They ask permission for things to talk about, and they always want to know if I'm dating anyone. Usually they think it's Natasha," he adds, blushing a little.

"And what do you tell them?" he asks, setting the menu aside.

"I've been telling them it's a private matter. But I'd like to tell them about you. I wanted to get your permission first.

"With some of the things that have been going on in the country, I think it'll do a lot of good if people know Captain America has a boyfriend."

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus smiles, chuckling a little. "All right, I suppose. Boyfriend."

It's not a word he's used to applying to himself.

"What sorts of things are you concerned about?"

"It'll be a big deal. People will want to know your name, where you're from, how we met. I figure I can say you're a musician and we've known each other for a long time and hope they'll be satisfied, but if there's more you're okay with me saying, I'd like to say that, too."

[golden_lyre]

"I meant, what things are going on that you're concerned about," Orpheus clarifies, but he nods. "What else might you say?"

"Oh, of course." He pauses a moment. "Suicides of gay kids because they're being bullied so much. You know how I feel about bullies, Orpheus.

"I don't know what else I'd say, exactly. I can't explain about the bar."

[golden_lyre]

"I do know," Orpheus says, smiling fondly.

"You can sway anything you like, anything you think is okay to say."

Steve reaches for his hand. "I'll say you're Greek and gorgeous."

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus laughs at that, curling his fingers around Steve's. "Do you do a lot of interviews?"

"Just three in the last few months, but there will be more."

[golden_lyre]

"And they always ask you about me?"

[thekidfrombrooklyn]

"They want to know personal stuff," says Steve, with an embarrassed look. "I haven't gone into too much detail about it, really. I tell them I'm from Brooklyn but I don't say I was born in 1918, for instance."

"Probably for the best," Orpheus murmurs, squeezing his hand.

"And like I said, they want to know if I'm dating anybody. I can leave out details and say it's to protect my loved ones--which is also true--but I would like to let people know you exist."

[golden_lyre]

"You can tell them anything you want, lovely."

Steve smiles to himself and says quietly, "Okay. I'm kind of excited about it, really--telling people about my music man."

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus laughs, rather pleased himself. "Is that what you're going to call me?"

"Are you okay with that?" Smiling more broadly.

[golden_lyre]

"Of course. It's true, isn't it?"

[thekidfrombrooklyn]

"It sure is." He adds, with a mischievous glint in his eye, "Can I say you wear my ring?"

[golden_lyre]

He considers a moment and nods. "Yes. You can."

Steve smiles so widely that he has to hide it behind his hand.

Thank goodness the waitress comes then. "What'll it be, boys?"

"Just the usual, Rosie," Steve tells her, still beaming at Orpheus.

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus is too busy smiling back to look up at the waitress. "And I'll have the blueberry pancakes, thanks."

"One blueberry pancakes," says the waitress, writing, "and one lumberjack breakfast." She scurries off.

"We're kind of obvious, aren't we?" Steve says.
